Description
A Skill That Lasts a Lifetime
Learning to ride a bike is more than just another children’s activity. Cycling is a lifelong skill that builds confidence, independence and freedom from an early age.
Many children will use the skills they learn at Pedalwise for years to come — riding with family, cycling to school, exploring trails, joining clubs and enjoying healthier, more active lifestyles.
What to Expect on the Day
Booking a Pedalwise lesson is the first step towards learning a skill that lasts a lifetime. Our lessons are relaxed, supportive, and designed to help every rider succeed, whether they are a complete beginner or returning to cycling. It is important to remind you Pedalwise do not provide bikes, you must bring your own!
Arrival and Welcome
Please arrive 5–10 minutes early to meet your instructor and get settled. Lessons take place in safe, traffic-free areas such as school playgrounds March-October and sports halls November-February.
Your instructor will introduce themselves, explain how the session works, and ensure both rider and bike are ready. There is no pressure and no expectation of prior experience.
Getting Started
The instructor will then guide the rider through our proven balance-first method, which makes learning easier and more natural.
Building Skills and Confidence
Lessons progress step by step, helping riders learn how to:
- Balance independently
- Start and stop safely
- Steer and control the bike
- Ride with confidence
Each rider progresses at their own pace in a calm and encouraging environment.
By the End of the Lesson
Most riders make excellent progress, and many achieve independent riding during their first session. This would be considered a level 2 pass, no further instruction is required, simply home practice to cement the new skills. A small number of students may not reach a level 2 pass, and after additional practice at home, on occasion some may benefit from a free follow-up class.
Our goal is to build confidence as well as skills, helping every rider feel comfortable and positive on their bike. Pedalwise is here to make it an enjoyable and successful experience.
